I used GREEN to draw in what I saw as the “extreme” poses and I wrote the frame number for these poses in the bottom left corner. The BLUE line is the path of action his character was bouncing along. To break this shot down, first I wanted us to look at the movement of the body (not worrying about the tail yet). Then I imported the image sequence into Autodesk Sketchbook Pro by creating a new Flipbook using “new flipbook from image sequence.” I put the image sequence on the “midground” layer so I could use the “foreground” layer to do draw-overs. I then took his video and converted it into an image sequence using Quicktime Pro 7.

My friend Kevin is in Class 1 (Animation Basics) and whenever I can, I am trying to help him learn the things I have learned. I am in no way an expert and will probably get many things wrong along this journey, but I am reading and learning quickly and need to start writing these things down.

I am currently in Class 3 (advanced body mechanics) of the Character Animation set of courses at and am having a blast learning so much! They say the best way to really learn something is to try teaching it to others, and so I am trying my best to help others understand what I’m learning about animation.
